Brian Mannion

Brian Mannion is the Chief Legal Officer for Aware. He started in December 2020. He also serves as the Data Protection Officer and head of the People Team. In addition to managing the legal, privacy, and HR functions, he will provide insights into product development and participate in sales activities. Using a SaaS platform, Aware provides Enterprise customers the ability to manage their collaboration platform like Slack, Teams, Workplace, and Zoom across several dimensions including record retention, information security, eDiscovery, and insights.

Prior to joining Aware, he was Assistant Vice President, Associate General Counsel for Technology, Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Fraud, and Sanctions at Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company. He worked at Nationwide since 1999 in various legal roles. He practiced in the areas of privacy, information technology, data retention, information security, disaster recovery, FCPA, OFAC and anti-money laundering.  For fourteen years he led a team of lawyers and compliance professionals assisting with the review and implementation of technologies such as Yammer, Microsoft O365, Salesforce, Azure, AWS, mobile devices, Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Workday focusing on ensuring data was managed, accessed, and utilized appropriately and effectively. For more than 20 years, Brian was the primary lawyer responsible for Nationwide’s anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing, and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) efforts for its broker/dealers, bank, mutual funds, mortgage company, and life insurance companies.  

Brian is a graduate of the Capital University School of Law and received his B.A. from Miami University.  He has been involved with and past president of the Central Ohio Association of Corporate Counsel.  He was a former board member at the Columbus Speech and Hearing Center. He is a frequent speaker at privacy, anti-money laundering, and technology conferences. His wife Laurie and he have four children.  Brian enjoys coaching middle school basketball and golfing.
